Large Orange Storage Containers

Large Orange Storage ContainersEvery household could use extra space. Most people like to be organized so that they can find things quickly, but as usual, stuff piles up and a big mess is the result.

Since my kitchen is painted with brown and beige and has cute lace curtains with a delicate valance in light orange, I think large orange storage containers would be the best option to accessorize the room.

At the same time, I have a place to put potatoes and carrots, baking tools such as measuring cups and spoons, as well as little dishes for pudding cups or fresh fruit.

Keeping everything neat and tidy cuts down on the dust, makes things easy to find in a rush, and looks fashionable.

Orange is a bold color, for sure. But one of the best qualities of orange is that it fits perfectly for different styles. It works well for the autumn season, it is ideal for Halloween, and it complements other colors like the standard black and orange combination, brown hues with orange, and of course, white and orange.

And when you think of orange, you might not choose it as the first color for your home décor in a room makeover project, yet, it can transform a room from being blah to wow in a few easy steps. Remember that orange can be tangerine, salmon, peach, apricot and carrot. So it doesn't have to be glaring or too bright.

Before purchasing the bins that I finally chose, I needed to determine how many to get. Of course, that depended on what I need to organize or store. It would also depend on how heavy or big the items were that I needed to put away. For potatoes, for example, I needed enough room for the contents of a ten pound bag. I sometime bought smaller three pound bags, but ten was the size I bought most often.

I then thought about what baskets needed to have handles. They would be especially important if the bin got heavy when full. If I needed to carry it around the kitchen, handles would do the trick. With Halloween coming up, I could use it for holding the candy at the door, without having to spend more money on something for once a year.

Lids might be another deciding factor when choosing the baskets. For things I don't use as often, the lids will keep the dust off the interior items and prevent them from getting grease and other gunk on them, like what happens when cooking.

I noticed that many totes come in fabric or plastic. I wanted to be able to quickly wipe down the bins when cleaning, so fabric in the kitchen wasn't the best option for me. And finally, I wanted something of substance. I didn't want it breaking after a couple times of use, so having flimsy or thin material was not a good idea. Even for lighter things, I wanted something strong in case I changed my mind and wanted to use it for something else.

In the end I figured if I started out with five bins, I could get a lot accomplished. These are the ones that I chose and what I use them for.

This was my favorite basket of them all. I love how it looks! But I did choose it for a special purpose. I thought it would be best to hold the potatoes. It is large enough to keep lots of them, plus it has the handles for support. I can carry it where ever I am cooking in the kitchen. Sometimes, I just want a few special size potatoes to make home fries for breakfast. I can quickly sort them out to find the perfect similar sizes.

Also, with the handles, I can go to the living room and sit down to peel potatoes while watching the television if something special is on. I don't have to worry about the potatoes falling all over the place and getting dirt on the rug or furniture.

Because of its oval shaping, the potatoes fit better than if I had chosen a square, round or rectangle.

I'm going to use it to hold the Halloween candy that night, but I see other people have bought it for children's Easter baskets, storing baby bottles, and even as a gift basket full of kitchen utensils for a house warming present.

Although the suggested use for this one is in the bathroom on a vanity, I thought it would be great in the kitchen. Aside from looking nice, it is perfectly shaped for sitting against the wall or an appliance on the countertop. I am going to use it to put a bottle of olive oil, a few spices, and other ingredients that I use on a regular basis and don't want to always be searching through the cupboard.

To be honest, although no-one else would see it, it would work well inside the cupboard, too as an organizer. Mine is going to be seen, though, since I want the orange accents around the kitchen.

When I saw this basket, I knew it would be ideal for all my gadgets needed when baking. I can't see the recipe without my reader glasses, and I keep my cell phone nearby in case of emergencies. I don't like everything strewn on the counter.

But this container allows me to throw everything into and know where they are when I need it. Glasses, phone, pencil, small note pad and even calculator for measurement conversions.

This one is for the dirty tea towels and dish cloths. I don't want my kitchen linens washed with other things, so the towels are done in a small load every week. The bin needs to have air holes so that mold and mildew doesn't collect on the cloths.

When I am finished with a towel, I can throw it in this bin and when laundry day comes, carry the basket to the washing machine. Being plastic, I quickly wipe it out with vinegar, and then fold the clean towels to back to the kitchen. I then store them in a drawer and leave the empty basket to collect the next batch of dirty cloths.

And, yes, there is more than orange in the set, but I liked the fancy lacy design and figured I could use the other colors somewhere around the house. One of my family is always looking for a bin to store things, so we may as well have extra.

I don't use a trash can per se in the kitchen. Most of our garbage goes into recycling bins or the compost bin for weekly pickup. But when someone uses a tissue or wipes their hands with a paper towel, I want somewhere for them to deposit it. That's the reason I choose this handy kitchen wastebasket. It is small enough to fit in the corner, yet large enough for paper refuse.

We don't put anything in here that would be stinky or decaying. Plus, it can be quickly wiped out. And, you, might notice it matches the bin for the countertop, which was a bonus.
